What to Bring
If the list below seems too long — the two essentials for you to bring are:
- Comfortable, layered, clothing you can both move around in and feel comfortable sitting on the floor, and
- Food to eat in the park (or money for a restaurant) for the meal break.
Longer Version:
- Notepad/Journal (and pen): You'll be sitting on the floor and writing with the notepad/journal on your lap, so it's better if your notepad includes a solid back. You won't be doing much writing (this is mainly an experiential workshop) — so again, this isn't critical.
- Comfortable, Loose, Layered Clothing: This will free you up for sitting on the floor and any exercises that may involve moving around.
NOTE: We aim for the workshop space to be on the cool/chilly side to keep the participants invigorated and awake. But the room and you will heat-up during some of the exercises — so do bring layers to so you'll be comfortable in both situations! - Bottle of water
- OPTIONAL: We will be practicing contradicting our bodies' typical habits of closure by sitting upright on the floor with our chest/heart open. We have pillows and blankets that you may use for sitting on. But if you have something you prefer to sit on (meditation cushion, zafu, kneeling bench, etc.) feel free to bring that.
- NOTE: Please don't plan any other activity during the meal break — there will be a workshop related exercise to do during the break.
For the Meal Breaks
You'll be participating in a paired/group exercise during the meal breaks.
You'll be required to leave the workshop space during the meal break, both to encourage you to get out, to walk, to move your hips — and, so that the facilitators can energetically prepare for the second part of the workshop.
You can either eat at one of the many restaurants that are in easy walking distance of the venue — or you can bring a "picnic lunch"(or at least food that can be eaten outside in a park). Since the weather looks to be nice we're encouraging people to bring their lunch so that the participants can walk as a group to a local park to eat.
You are encouraged to bring the following:
- Food / "Picnic Lunch": You'll be participating in a paired/group exercise during the meal break that will be held outside in a park. So you'll want to bring a "picnic lunch" or at least food you can easily eat in a park. A sandwich would certainly do the trick.
- A hat, and walking shoes for use during lunch: To support your comfort in getting out and about during the meal break. You'll be walking half-a-mile each way to and from the park. So bring shoes that you can comfortably walk in, warm clothing, and possibly a hat.
If you have physical limitations that make such a walk difficult, adjustments can be made to the exercise so that you can participate in the exercise without having to go on the walk.
