Custom Driving Directions
WholeBody Wisdom is located in a building across the
street from Lake Merritt and a few blocks away from the Grand Lake
Theater.
The building has a green awning over the front door. It's a majestic building (built in 1929) and it's
the largest building in that quadrant of the lake.
ENTRY into BUILDING:
-
There is a phone at the front door.
-
LIFT the receiver then PRESS 51 to ring the phone and you'll be buzzed
in.
-
Take the elevator to the top floor
-
Exit the elevator and turn left - #607 will be straight ahead.
WHEN:
It's useful to leave yourself extra time for
parking and unexpected traffic. As both private sessions and
workshops begins right at the scheduled time.
Private Sessions: We ask that you don't ring the front door
phone more than a minute or two before the scheduled start time for your
appointment.
If you arrive early, you can use this as an
opportunity to take a walk on Lake Merritt or rest in the park.
Workshops: Please arrive
early so that you can complete your registration
process and have time to get settled and grounded for
the start of the workshop.
[For weekend and day long workshops we
recommend arriving at the front door 20-30 minutes before the start of the
workshop. For evening workshops the doors usually open 10-15 minutes before the start
of the workshop.]

past the I-980 interchange)

* 2122 Lakeshore is the 3rd building on the left after Brooklyn

* Exit at the Lakeshore Ave. exit
* Turn LEFT at the bottom of the off ramp on to Lakeshore Ave.
* Pass underneath the freeway and THROUGH the Stop Light.
* Go down a couple of blocks to the next Stop Light. This will be
Brooklyn.
* 2122 Lakeshore is the 3rd building on the left between
Brooklyn & Wesley.
From the SOUTH-WEST (San Jose, Santa Cruz)

PARKING:
It shouldn't be too hard to find street parking --
and it is a relatively safe neighborhood --
BUT this is a large city across the street from a
park [and, BTW, the oldest wild life sanctuary in North America :-) ] --
so it's safest to not leave anything visible in your car.
AND - Be sure and read the street signs for parking restrictions - each
section of the street has different no parking times. Some sections
have multiple applicable signs.
You can't park on the side of Lakeshore that is next to the lake,
during the day on weekends or holidays. (or you can - but you might get a
ticket ;-)

PHONE HELP:
* Dial 511 for an amazing (and free)
Bay Area Travel Guide -- get help on: Public Transportation,
Traffic, Bicycling, Carpooling or Van Pooling. It's very useful to call
ahead to find out what roads are backed up.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
You can use this web site to see your different options:
http://transit.511.org/tripplanner/index.asp
It the on-line trip planner is useful but not perfect.
To come from downtown S.F. I like to take the NL line of the AC transit.
Most times of day it runs as an express and the Lakeshore /MacArthur stop
is only the second stop on the line and then you only need to walk 3 or 4
blocks to get to Lakeshore & Brooklyn.
Call the operators at AC Transit to get live help with planning your trip.
* 817-1717 (from any area code in the Bay Area, then say "AC Transit" to
reach AC Transit)
* 510-477-0192 (local call from Southern Alameda County -- avoid
long-distance charges)
If you want to use BART they can tell you what BART station to get off of
and then what AC transit bus to take the rest of the way. The
Lake Merritt BART station is the closest and is about a 20-30 minute walk
-- if walked at a quick pace.
Or a faster option is to get off at the
Oakland 12th Street station and then take a short cab ride. (There are
many cabs available at this BART station)
DETAILED
DIRECTIONS:
From Marin
Take the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge (which is I-580 East).
* Go across the bridge and through the city of Richmond. Stay on 580 and
it will eventually merge with I-80 West
* You'll be traveling South but the I-80 freeway will say I-80 West!
You'll see the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge on your right.
* Get over to the second to the farthest left lane. (The farthest left
lane is the carpool lane and will go to the Bay Bridge into S.F. - you
don't want that lane.)
* If you stay in the second to the farthest left lane, you will
automatically get onto I-580 East toward Hayward.
* Stay on I-580 for about 3 miles or so. Be sure not to get into the
right lane too early or you will accidentally get taken onto another
freeway.
[If 80 is heavily backed up by Berkeley, and you want to take the
streets around the maze, here they are:
Get off at Gilman or University and turn left
Turn right on 6th St, and take it to Ashby and turn left
Or take the Ashby exit, and take Ashby towards the hills
On Ashby go up to Martin Luther King (MLK) and turn right.
STAY on MLK as it winds around by the BART tracks.
And stay in left lane and it will put you onto 24. Follow signs to 580 to
Hayward.]
Once on 580 East, pass the Oakland/Harrison exit, then
* Exit at the Grand Ave. exit (this exit is in Oakland just 3 exits
past the I-980 interchange)
* Go up to the second light and turn right onto Lakeshore Ave.
* Go down about a half mile to the next Stop Light. This will be Brooklyn.
* 2122 Lakeshore is the 3rd building on the left after Brooklyn
& before Wesley.
