Middletown, CA

Directions

As part of your registration for the retreat/workshop you can arrive as early as noon on Friday and use the general Harbin facilities.

DO NOT GO TO THE HARBIN GATE (except to ask directions - if needed).  Instead, look for a sign on the right about 150 feet (?) before the gate that says "100% & BB40 - Longwell & Burt weekend" which leads to the conference center.  Drive all the way to the conference center, register with us, unload, and then we'll have you move your car to the conference center parking lot.

Do not pay the gate for your stay unless you have a room or you're going to arrive before noon on Friday (some of us are coming up on Thursday and paying the Harbin day rate. See http://harbin.org/rates.htm for complete rate information for coming up early or staying over on Sunday night.)

If you are open to sharing a ride (a couple people are in need of a ride up), please put rideshare info on the wiki:
http://chillaxin.pbwiki.com/ and the password is: harbin

Be aware that some onboard navigation systems have lead those driving through Cobb onto the unpaved Bogg Mountain Springs fire road. Do not attempt to access Harbin on this road. If you find yourself on an unpaved road on the way to Harbin, turn around.

From San Francisco via Santa Rosa
(usually fastest SF route)
  • Drive north on US-101 through Santa Rosa.
  • Exit at River Road/Mark West Road.
  • Turn right on Mark West Springs Road. This road becomes Porter Creek Road after about 5 miles, and eventually ends at a flashing red light after another 4 miles.
  • Turn left onto Petrified Forest, following signs for Calistoga, for approx. 5 miles.
  • Turn left onto Foothill Blvd/CA-128, and drive less than a mile.
  • Turn right onto Tubbs Lane, and drive for 1.3 miles.
  • Turn left onto CA- 29, driving 15 miles into Middletown. (This is a curvy, mountainous road.)
  • Once you arrive in Middletown, turn left onto Hwy 175.
  • Drive three short blocks to Barnes St. (Big Canyon Rd.) and turn right.
  • Drive 1.2 miles to Harbin Springs Road, turning left at the fork at the top of the hill.
  • The parking lot for the conference center will be on the right about two miles down the road, before the gatehouse.

From the East Bay via Napa Valley
From the East Bay, note that the Silverado Trail shortcut through Napa is *much* faster than taking 29 all the way there. Here are better directions than on the Harbin website:
  • Take I-80 east past the town of Vallejo.
  • Exit at Marine World Parkway/CA-37 west toward Napa, and drive 2.5 miles.
  • Exit 29 north, and then follow the signs to Lake Barryessa (including a soft right turn) until you see the sign for the Silverado Trail.
  • Turn Left on to the Silverado Trail. Follow Silverado to the end, where you hit 29 and go Right (north) to Middletown

From Sacramento
  • Drive North on I-5 for 58 miles to the town of Williams.
  • Exit West on CA- 20 for 37 miles.
  • Turn Left onto CA- 53, which turns into CA-29 south, into Middletown.
  • Once you arrive in Middletown, turn right onto Hwy 175.
