Frequently Asked Questions
Why such a huge discount for early registration? ...
It is worth a lot to us for our workshops to sell out early and not
have to spend extra ongoing time and effort marketing them. What we love
to do and are experts at is leading workshops. We consider the marketing
and administration aspect of putting on workshops a necessary evil and
we're grateful for what it brings us, but, really, we'd rather be
facilitating! Your willingness to sign up straight away (without further
need to have questions answered, concerns addressed, or in any otherwise
taking us away from preparing for the workshop) well, that sign of
faith in us and what we're offering is worth a lot to us!! It's worth so
much, in fact, that it's easy for us to give you a substantial price break
for attending.
Here are some of the other benefits we think begin to show up when
people register early for our events:
· More powerful experiences for everyone! Early registration
helps you (and everyone) show up more prepared and ready for their
experience. Often we’ll send out materials before the workshop –questions
and such to think about- to help you prepare for the workshop and you get
more time to work on them, but it doesn’t have to be something conscious
that you do that prepares you either. The old adage "the workshop starts
when you register," has a lot of truth in it. There is something about
“marinating” in whatever happens when you’re about to participate in a
powerful, intentional experience like a workshop. Stuff starts coming up
for you and you start the process –whatever that is for you- that gets you
ready for the workshop. So, the sooner you register, the more likely you
are to be “cooked” and ready for the feast of learning when you arrive.
Believe us. We've seen, time and time again: “Early birds” consistently
have some of the most powerful experiences we’ve had the honor of
facilitating.
· Do we need a bigger boat? In the movie Jaws, when Roy Scheider’s
character observed that they needed a bigger boat, it was after Jaws
destroyed the little one. Too late. When people register early we know
early on who and how many people are going to show up. This makes
it so much easier for us to plan a more powerful workshop. Do we need
a bigger space? More matts or chairs? Do we need to adjust gender balance?
Should we order more snacks? Strong response to early registration helps
us address logistical concerns better, and -whew!- it's just a relief to
know we've got people committed to showing up and playing with us! I mean,
who wants to throw a party that no one is going to come to, right?
· Quick! Book a second show at the Apollo! Sometimes workshops sell out
early. Not only does early registration allow us enough time to book a
larger venue in advance, it allows us (especially when a particular
workshop experience is enhance by having it be a smaller, more intimate
group) to schedule a second workshop. This way, those who would normally
be put on the waiting list or have to wait months for the next workshop
don’t have to wait so long. Everyone wins!
· No threat of having to cancel the event. Some times, people
wait to the last minute to register for a workshop and there's a huge rush
to register just before the workshop starts. As workshop facilitators, we
know this is just normal human behavior and a natural outcome of the busy,
rat-paced lives many of us lead. However, in these situations, when lots
of people register last minute, we've been stressing over whether there
will be enough people to even run the workshop! We’ve been mulling over
whether we'll have to cancel or not, and canceling a workshop is something
we want to avoid at all cost. Not only is it a bummer to cancel an evening
or a weekend or a week of doing something we just love to do (leading
workshops that help people!), it’s especially unfair to those who
registered early and planned ahead and may have made expensive travel
arrangements to attend. When you register early, we can breath a sigh of
relief!
As facilitators of workshops and events, as you can see, we LOVE you
early registration birds! Rewarding you for planning ahead and committing
early is the least we can do for the amount of stress you reduce in our
lives and the sense of impending joy you help create!
Why such an expensive at the door price?
The at-the-door price is the very minimum that our workshop is really
worth. We're willing to give a discount for advance registration for all
the reasons we’ve just listed above.
Signing up with one or more buddies…
Does my Buddy System buddy have to be a friend?
No, your Buddy System buddy doesn't have to be a friend. They can be a
new acquaintance, a friend of a friend, or a complete stranger. Heck, your
Buddy System buddy could even be someone you hate. Who knows? Maybe, after
they have this experience, you'll like them more.
Bring your boss or your landlord. Bring your least favorite cousin or
the police officer who just gave you a parking ticket. Bring your mom or
dad or sibling.
(Of course, if you want to bring your significant other, or your best
friend, or the person two cubicles over that you've got a crush on, we
think that's great, too!)
Why such a big discount for signing up with one or more friends?:
Like early registration, registering in groups has it’s rewards for you
as well as us:
· When people come with someone else (whether a friend,
significant other, community member, or peer) they are invariably more
grounded and at ease. Not showing up alone, even for the strongest and
most independent of us, makes for a better, more powerful experience for
everyone.
· When someone commits to attending an event with someone else, they
are more likely to show up. (Hint: If you’re someone who regularly
cancels on workshops and such, bring a friend and make arrangements for
you to carpool!)
· When someone commits to meeting a friend at an event they are more
likely to arrive on time. (Hint: If you’re the kind of person who’s
habitually late for workshops, make sure you have your friend do the
driving for the carpool!)
· Workshops are, when you think of it, community events. The
community process starts when you invite someone to join you at this event!
· Signing up with friends not only allows you to arrive in a state of
community, whatever new, shared experiences you partake in immediately
become a part of your current social network. It helps cancel out that
feeling of being alone that can sometimes occur when you leave a workshop
and “go back to the real world” where no one you know has had a similar
experience.
· Friends experiencing powerful work together with other friends is the
greatest way to expand community. Period. We're more interested in going
deep with our community than growing it really, big, really fast. This
isn’t MySpace or Facebook! We want to grow this community organically, and
who better to “stock the pond” than you with someone you cared enough
about to invite to attend with you?
